How Do I Background: Skies and Rain
Skies! A favourite subject of mine when painting traditionally. Though oddly, I don't seem to have done many 'big sky' tokota paintings, so here are some 'work' examples instead. (If you like these, you can see more at my Website, my Etsy Store where I sell the originals - I also have postcards and prints available at my Redbubble! Okay, I'm done self-promoting now haha. On to the art tutorial.) There are three basic types of cloud, and each has a different shape. Cumulus clouds are the big, fluffy puffy types everyone loves; they hang low in the sky and catch the light beautifully. Stratus clouds are thick, flattish sheets of cloud which also hang low in the sky. And cirrus clouds are little streaky, whispy clouds which fly high above the others. There are lots of 'inbetween' cloud types, this ref shows all of them: Ref: external-preview.redd.it/gvSmp… I find that the key to painting nice cloud shapes is varying your edges; keep some soft, and make others hard.
